Pregnancy Loss – Support & Personalised Healing Rituals

Pregnancy loss is very common, occurring in ¼ of pregnancies.

“A ritual starts the journey, puts your foot on the path when you feel like you can’t move …in allowing yourself to grieve you begin to heal.”

– Dr Anna Rogers, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist

Acknowledging the need for ritual in pregnancy loss.

Pregnancy loss can happen early or late in pregnancy, resulting from many causes, including miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, or by choice.

People speak of a range of grieving responses, including a sense of not being able to go on, feeling numb, shocked, confused, or combinations of these feelings - all of which are normal.

While some support is available, we provide something different: a personal ritual for people who have lost a baby, and are experiencing the many changes that can accompany this loss.

Ritual is important (some would say crucial) to fully honour and integrate loss. If allowed to be gentle and appropriate to the person, rituals can:

  • Provide a real experience of support and gentle hope,
  • Be a powerful, positive turning point helping us to move on.

We support you to create and conduct a personal ritual, in a structured, safe, confidential environment.

“Pregnancy loss is very common, occurring in ¼ of pregnancies. In allowing yourself to grieve you begin to heal. As you integrate and heal your loss you help others with theirs. And so the cycle of life moves on. A ritual helps starts the journey of healing, puts your foot on the path when you feel like you can’t move. Recognising the need for a ritual for pregnancy loss, I suggested that Gina develop this service. I am confident that you’ll be guided and held perfectly by her wisdom, experience and, most importantly, compassion.”

- Dr Anna Rogers, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist

What happens?

We recommend 3 sessions:

  1.  We meet together to understand your needs and to plan your ritual (1 hour);
  2.  After a week or fortnight we meet again to conduct your ritual (1½ - 2 hours);
  3.  We then meet again for a follow up session (1 hour).

We respect and work with people with many different religious and spiritual beliefs, or with none.

Who is this service for?

Anyone who has ever had a pregnancy loss, including in early pregnancy.

Everybody's situation is different. We work individually with women, men, and/or with couples. A male therapist is available by arrangement.

How much does it cost?

  • 3 sessions package $260 (3 ½ - 4 hours in total)
  • 1 hour sessions are $90
  • (Concession also available)

“There’s little acknowledgment in Western culture of miscarriage, no ritual to cleanse the grief. My own religion, Judaism, despite its meticulous attention to the details of daily life, has traditionally been silent on pregnancy loss. Christianity, too, has largely overlooked miscarriage.”

- Peggy Orenstein
